Heading into a difficult week against a variety of opponents, the Glenbrook South soccer team is seeking to assemble the pieces for a strong postseason push.
At least the Titans will be rested.
The Titans, now 3-4-1 on the season, had Saturday's showdown against Prospect canceled due to flooding. A sewer backup in the locker room forced the Titans to call off their home game with Prospect, giving Glenbrook South four days off before its next game.
The Titans enter a key stretch in their schedule, with the possibility of playing seven games in five days. Before heading to this weekend's Rockton Hononegah Indian State Cup Tournament, the Titans have a pair of key sectional seeding battles against Deerfield and Waukegan.
"This is the first time Glenbrook South is going up north with schools such as Zion and Libertyville for the Libertyville Sectional," said Glenbrook South veteran coach Jim Wolter. "The first two matches this week are important because of the seeding meetings."
The Titans are looking for some revenge, tying with Deerfield and losing to Waukegan last year.
The Titans, with 11 seniors, six juniors and two sophomores on the roster, had some positives during an early season adjustment period. Glenbrook South captured fourth place in the prestigious 23rd Annual Warm-Up Invite, falling to Stevenson 1-0 in the third-place game. St. Viator claimed the title with a 5-0 triumph over Niles North.
The Titans defeated Mundelein and Prosser, but lost to St. Viator and Stevenson. Following the invite, the Titans tied with Maine East 1-1 and defeated Highland Park 3-0. David Abidor led the Titans with one goal in each game, while Ned Pavlovic netted one goal and one assist.
For the season, Pavlovic leads the Titans with five goals and two assists, while Abidor owns three goals and one assist and Chris DeLetto has three goals and Nathan Park rounds out the team scoring with two goals.
"We're a pretty good team, though our record doesn't show it," Wolter said. "We've been creating some opportunities, but not taking advantage of it."
The Titans will miss the services of defender Peter Riley this week. The junior suffered a concussion in the Stevenson match. Riley is expected to be out another week.
