Glenbrook North boys lacrosse coach Justin Georgackis says there is no better way to put pop back into a team's step than with an 18-1 victory. That's what the Spartans did last Thursday when they rolled over Grayslake Central in their regular-season finale.
"It was a total team effort," Georgackis said about the nonconference game. "We finally played with a purpose. We needed a game like this before heading into the playoffs."
Glenbrook North is seeded No. 2 in the Illinois High School Lacrosse Association postseason. The Spartans earned a first-round bye by being one of the top eight teams in the IHSLA standings. Lyons Township received the top seed.
The Spartans will play Evanston today at 7 p.m. in the second round. According to Georgackis, it is the first home playoff game for Glenbrook North since 2000.
The third round is Saturday between the winner of the St. Charles co-op team and St. Viator. The Lions defeated Glenbrook South 11-6 Tuesday night. The IHSLA title game is June 1 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.
In the Grayslake Central victory, seven different Spartan players scored one or two goals. Trevor Synek led the team with five goals, while Drake Paul had five assists.
Glenbrook North finished the regular season 17-1.
