Hilltoppers rally past Lyons

First-year Lyons coach Katie Meyers is looking for some measure of consistency with her team. It was hard to find it Saturday night.
LT lost an 11-point lead in the second quarter and had one of its worst halves of the season in a 44-30 loss to Glenbard West in the first game of a West Suburban Silver Pack-the-Place doubleheader in LaGrange.
Glenbard West (12-11, 7-3) erased its double-digit deficit immediately with a 20-0 run that decided the game. The Hilltoppers scored the last 10 points in the first half and the first 10 points in the second half. Lyons was outscored 22-7 in the second half. LT made three baskets in the second half.
Colleen Connors' three-pointer with 3:11 remaining in the fourth quarter was Lyons' only basket in the final eight-minute quarter.
"It was painful," Meyers said. "Especially after the first two quarters when we executed our system for the first time."
When starting guards Connors and Lindsay Esposito experienced foul trouble in the second quarter, Glenbard took advantage. Lauren Davis (nine points), who did not score in the second half, made back-to-back baskets -- a three-pointer and 10-foot jumper in the last 31 seconds -- to bring the Hilltoppers to within 23-22 at halftime.
"I was a happy we were able to make a comeback," Davis said. "For sure, I really wanted to beat this team. I didn't know the (second half) would be a huge surprise. It was very helpful."
Esposito led Lyons (7-14, 3-7) with nine points, all in the first half.
Southern Indiana-bound Cayla Herbst led Glenbard with 14 points and seven rebounds. She made as many baskets as Lyons' entire team in the second half.
"It's hard to regain momentum," Meyers said. "We show glimpses. We need to establish more consistency."
LT went nearly eight minutes without a field goal during Glenbard's decisive run. Lyons missed its first three shots in the third quarter until Ashanti Davis scored LT's first second-half basket on a seven-foot running jumper with 4:08 to go in the quarter.
