Joshua Sutherland had a hard time controlling his spots as he stepped up to take his penalty kick.

But the junior midfielder held his nerve and delivered the decisive shot to give York a 2-1 win over Lake Park in penalties Tuesday in a Class 3A regional in Roselle. The game was won 5-4 on penalty kicks, after regulation and four overtimes finished tied at one.

"Everything in the world was going through my mind," Sutherland said. "All the noise, my teammates, the pressure, it was pretty intense."

Timothy Ireland, David Selvaggi, Mike DeSimone and Cody Klietatrmes (goal) also converted their penalties for the Dukes (8-7-4).

The victory is the latest in a string of positive results for York against some of the area's elite teams, including a 1-0 victory Thursday over Downers Grove North in its final game of the regular season.

"This is a really good win for us," Klietatrmes said. "We had a rough start to our season, but to build up to this by beating Downers Grove North and holding our own against Morton and Lyons before that, this is really big for us."

Alex Norman scoreded with eight minutes remaining to tie the score at one for Lake Park (10-7-7). Mike Catalano, Tim Czesak, Oliver Huerta, Eric Ahrens (five saves) each scored in the shootout for the Lancers.

Carmine Sementa had 15 saves for York, which will play Geneva (12-9-1) in a regional Friday at 6 p.m. after the Vikings defeated Rolling Meadows 5-1 behind two goals from Robbie Johnson and a goal and an assist by Brady Wahl.

Joe Aiello had a goal for the Mustangs.
