Fremd regaining confidence with win

Like death and taxes, there has been Fremd gymnastics. But recently there have been some questions regarding the Vikings' team this year.
At the Mar-Rae Sopper Invitational at Fremd in Palatine Saturday, Fremd answered some of those questions by winning the invitational with a 146.875.
"That is better than we have been, which is good," Fremd coach Jim Guest said. "I think we are starting to hit our stride.
"We still have things to work on like our releases on bars, connections on beam and our front-tumbling passes. But we are headed in a much better direction."
The Vikings were led by Maegan Wochinski, who won the beam with a 9.50 and the floor with a 9.55.
"When we lost to Schaumburg it was an eye-opener," said Wochinski, who was second in the all-around with a 37.10. "We started working three times harder in the gym and I think it is beginning to pay off."
Fremd also got strong performances from Stephanie Gallo, who was fourth in the all-around with a 36.50, Kelsey Onesto, who was second on the beam, Emihly Pinderski, who was third on the bars and Shannon LeMajeur who was fourth in the bars.
"We are still not at our peak yet," Wochinski said. "But we are working to come out at the end and that's when it counts most."
Lyons was second with a 143.55 and the Lions were led by Carolynn Cozza, who was third in the all-around with a 36.925. Cozza also won the bars with a 9.40 and the vault with a 9.70.
Sandburg's Alexa Messina won the all-around with a 37.25.
