Powell runs past Fenger
King’s Nathaniel Powell made his homecoming game a memorable one. The sophomore quarterback scored two touchdowns and gained 127 yards on 20 carries to lead the Jaguars past Fenger 32-26 on Friday at the University of Chicago.
Freshman running back Lance Robinson scored on a 26-yard run with 2:53 left to break the 26-26 tie. He is the son of Levertis Robinson, who led King to the 1986 Class AA state basketball championship.
Powell scored on touchdown runs of 13 and 56 yards, and Kahari Logan scored on a fumble return and a four-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars (6-1, 3-1 Land of Lincoln).
“I was just doing what my coaches tell me to do,” Powell said. “The line made some great plays and I just had to follow their blocks.”
Kevin Allen scored on a 72-yard run and a two-yard dive for the Titans (4-3, 3-1), who played without head coach Cassius Chambers, who was forced to sit out while Public League officials conduct an investigation into his involvement in an altercation with a student.
“They are treating my son like he’s a hardened criminal,” Chambers’ father Chuck Chambers said.
