SOCCER-- After wrapping up the Metro Suburban Conference regular-season title, Elmwood Park's girls soccer team ended its season splitting two games.
The Tigers defeated Cristo Rey Jesuit 8-1 on May 11, but then fell 5-0 to Trinity.
"I thought we would have a tougher time with Cristo Rey," Tigers head coach Ryan Kearns said. "Cristo Rey is 8-0 in their conference and I thought they would be more skilled."
Instead, Elmwood Park had its way with the Cristeros as two Tiger players scored three goals each. Ade Maron and Lauren Zuro each had trick tricks as Elmwood Park improved to 10-10 overall. The Tigers finished 5-1 in conference play, and clinched the MSC title with a win over Fenton last week.
Unfortunately, Elmwood Park could not close the regular season with a win, as Trinity, one of the best teams in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference, had little trouble putting the Tigers away.
"It was still a great wrap up to the season," Kearns said. "We won eight of our last 11 games and we haven't lost multiple games since the end of March. We've only had three losses in the last five weeks."
Elmwood Park, which started the season 0-4 before catching fire, is in the Nazareth Regional, May 19-22. The Regional final, originally scheduled for May 23, has been moved up a day and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
BASEBALL-- The Tigers dropped a 6-2 contest to Ridgewood on May 12, but came back to beat the Rebels 6-2 on May 14.
The Tigers game against Fenton was postponed because the weather, and will be made up Wednesday.
