Nick Alcazar and Damian Zukowski helped align the stars for Elk Grove Friday at the Mid-Suburban Conference meet at Elk Grove.

Alcazar was second in the all-around with a 50.95 and Zukowski was fifth with a 49.35 to help the Grenediers to the team title with a 147.10. It was Elk Grove’s first conference tournament title since 2001.

“It is a pleasant surprise,” Alcazar said. “We were solid in all our routines tonight and competing in our own gym really helped.

Elk Grove coach Keith Mukai was pleased with his team, which also captured the MSL East title. The Grenediers also got strong performances from Jerry Kurty, Kenji Fukuda, Tom Jansen and Kent Evans.

“We had a very good meet with no major mistakes,” Mukai said. Nick and Damian were solid. But it was our third scores that really made the difference.”

Palatine was second with a 146.35 and Conant was third with a 144.75.

“Our score is a good reflection on how sloppy we were tonight,” Palatine coach Scott Hagel said. “We only stuck five of our landings. We need to come back better next week at sectionals.”

Palatine’s Jonah Hinz won the all-around with a 52.20. Conant’s Steve Rink was third with a 50.85.

Zukowski won the high bar with an 8.80. Conant’s Vince Gottardo won the vault with a 9.35.

Rolling Meadows’ Marc Herff, who was fourth in the all-around with a 50.75, won the parallel bars with a 9.45 and the rings with a 9.00.

Fremd’s CJ Patton won the pommel horse with a 9.45 while teammate Bobby Wongkamalasai won the floor with a 9.50.
