Meyer's performance leads Elk Grove

Nick Meyer made sure his team didn't get caught looking ahead. Meyer threw two touchdowns and ran for two others as Elk Grove rolled past Hersey 28-13 Friday in Arlington Heights.

"We needed to take care of this one," said Meyer whose team hosts Prospect in a Mid-Suburban East showdown next Friday.

"And we did just that. We should be ready to go against Prospect."

Meyer, who was 18-for-20 for 225 yards, was perfect in the first half.

"Our receivers did a good job of getting open," Meyer said. " And our line gave me time. That makes my job easy."

Meyer completed all 11 of his attempts. He threw touchdown passes of 11 and 34 yards to Mike Wary. Meyer also added a 13-yard touchdown run as Elk Grove (6-1, 3-0) built a 21-0 lead.

Hersey (3-4, 0-3) closed to 21-7 just before the end of the half on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Brad Zaucha to Justin Jobski.

Meyer, who carried 27 times for 71 yards, tallied on a quarterback sneak to make it 28-7.

Hersey's Chris Polinski scored on a one-yard run midway through the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

"It was hard coming in here tonight," Elk Grove coach Brian Doll said. "We knew that Hersey was a good team and we had to stay focused. We did a good job of that."
