Lyons' big run sinks DuSable

Never one to panic facing an early deficit, No. 17 Lyons nonetheless found itself trailing 8-5 early Wednesday thanks to DuSable's hot early shooting from long range.
But down three points, the Lions showed why they are the second-seeded team in the sectional, rattling off 25 unanswered points on their way to an easy 72-45 win in the Class 4A Brother Rice Regional semifinals.
"Our guys may have been a little bit slow to get into the flow of the game," Lyons coach Tom Sloan said. "It's that first state tournament game, and we hadn't played on this court. I don't know if that had something to do with it, but once the guys got into the flow, they started to feel more comfortable, and our defense was effective."
Balance was the key for Lyons (24-2) with seven different players scoring at least five points. Nick Zeisloft led all scorers with 18 points while Eric Powers (11 points), Spencer Mahoney (10 points) and Mark Sewall (9 points) all contributing.
Damond Williams paced DuSable (10-11) with 17 points.
Trailing 8-5 just minutes into the game, Lyons took the lead with two buckets from Mahoney and never looked back with a 25-0 run.
DuSable committed nine first-quarter turnovers and didn't score for over nine minutes over the first and second quarter.
"We didn't allow them to have good looks at the basket, and then we finished off with defensive rebounds or deflections and turnovers," Sloan said. "It led to easy baskets on the other end."
