Woodstock North pounded an injury-riddled Dundee-Crown 25-6 Friday night in Fox Valley Conference crossover match at Dundee.
It was the Chargers sixth loss of the season and its 23rd consecutive loss dating back to 2009. Brian Loftin (7 carries, 61 yards) ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Thunder.
“It’s only our second road game of the season and for whatever reason it seems when we get off the bus we’re not ready to go,” said Thunder coach Jeff Schroeder. “In the second half we definitely played a lot better football game. The kids have earned their success.”
The Chargers opened the scoring with a touchdown by Ardian Asani (41 yards on three carries). Cameron Martin picked up a loose ball on the Chargers 47-yard line following a bad exchange on a pitchout by Loftin. Asani finished the drive two plays later breaking through the Thunder defense for 40 yards and a score to give the Chargers a 6-0 lead with 6:02 left in the first quarter.
The Thunder (4-2) tied the game with 35 seconds left in the quarter. Loftin ran for two yards and a touchdown to tie the 6-6 at the end of the first half.
The Thunder came out quickly in the second half scoring on a 34-yard pass play from Loftin to Jeff Taylor to put the Thunder in the lead 13-6. Ryan Wade (91 yards on 18 carries) scored on a three-yard run, and Loftin closed out the scoring in the 4th quarter with a two-yard run to seal the win 25-6.
Chargers (0-6) starting quarterback Garrett Ryan was out with a shoulder injury. Chargers Coach Vito Andriola was forced to go with backup Ben Sprouse at quarterback.
“We got to be health and that’s going to be very hard,” said Chargers Coach Vito Andriola. “This was a game we had a chance to win. But we weren’t physically able to compete. Anything that can happen to us has happened this year.”
TJ Moss had 69 yards on 14 carries for the Chargers.
