Dundee-Crown could have used every excuse in the book on Tuesday evening in Carpentersville. The Chargers hadn’t played a game in almost 10 days and the start of Tuesday’s contest was delayed 25 minutes because of a fire alarm.

Dundee-Crown kept its composure though and cruised to a 67-50 win over Crystal Lake South in a Fox Valley Valley matchup.

The Chargers (11-6, 4-0) were able to get off to a quick start in the first few minutes against the Gators. Dundee-Crown held a 13-3 lead four minutes in, and the game looked as though it could be over quickly.

Crystal Lake South (4-14, 2-4) responded with some hot shooting in the second quarter and trailed by only two at the half. The Chargers shot 67 percent from the field in the first half, and South coach Dan DeBruycker was pleased his team was still in the game.

“We needed to create some turnovers in the second half if we wanted to beat a team like Dundee-Crown,” said DeBruycker. “We only scored six points in the third quarter and that is what did us in. We need to work on consistency on both sides of the ball to beat a team like Dundee-Crown.”

Dundee-Crown came out hot in the second half, starting with an 8-0 run. The Chargers increased the lead to 14 points and would never look back.

“Crystal Lake South did a great job in the first half,” said Chargers coach Lance Huber.

“We were a little rusty to start the game off and they capitalized. They (Crystal Lake South) are a very tough team to simulate on defense in practice. I’m pleased to get the win tonight.”

The Chargers had a nice balance on offense against the Gators.

Brandon Rodriguez led Dundee-Crown with 16 points. Kyle Bernhard and Dylan Kissack added 14 points each for the Chargers,

Crystal Lake South was led by Will Ahsmann with 10 points.
