The Dundee-Crown Athletic Hall of Fame announced its class of 2009 Wednesday night, adding five former athletes and a longtime educator, coach and supporter of athletics.

The newest inductees include:

• The late Howard Mitchell, who played basketball at Dundee Community High School and graduated in 1932.

• Jim Rumsa, a backer of athletics for more than 45 years and former baseball coach at Dundee and Dundee-Crown.

• Jennifer (Scarpelli) Colby, a 1982 graduate of Dundee who was a standout swimmer who competed on scholarship at Purdue.

• Kelley (Storm) Lawson, who earned 11 letters and starred in basketball, later playing at Quincy University.

• David Silva, the winningest wrestler in the storied history of D-C who competed at Elmhurst College.

• Kevin Tomasiewicz, a former standout pitcher at D-C who shined later at Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The class of 2009 will be honored at the D-C football game against visiting Grayslake North on Sept. 17 and inducted during a banquet at the Golf Club of Illinois on Sept. 19. Tickets for the induction are $35 and can be purchased by calling Mike Markowitz at 224-629-0963.

The new inductees will also be honored in the D-C homecoming parade on Sept. 20.

Mitchell was team captain during his senior season, earned all-conference honors twice and was named all-district once. Mitchell was also a two-time all-conference football player.

Rumsa is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame as a media person. He began his career as a baseball coach in 1961 at Dundee Community H.S. Also a sportscaster, Rumsa provided play-by-play for Dundee and Irving Crown football and basketball games from 1967-78. The charter member of the D-C Athletic Hall of Fame has also announced D-C football games since 1983.

Scarpelli was named swimming team MVP four times and advanced to the State Finals four times, winning three sectional titles. She held eight school swimming records and was a standout in track as well.

Storm, a 1998 D-C graduate, was a part of three regional titles, one sectional championship and amassed more than 1,000 points and set a single-season assist record. She is a member of the Quincy University Hall of Fame.

Silva holds the D-C career record for wins (149) and is one of two wrestlers in the 31-year history of the Fox Valley Conference to capture four league titles. The 2002 graduate was a three-time regional champ and three-time state qualifier, finishing sixth at state in 2002.

Tomasiewicz was a co-captain on the 2001 Chargers baseball team, which advanced to the Elite Eight. He set three records at Whitewater and pitched on a Division III national championship team in 2005.

Drafted by the New York Mets, Tomasiewicz pitched four seasons in the minor leagues.
