CARPENTERSVILLE -- The Dundee-Crown Chargers played tough, but still came up on the wrong end of the ledger, losing to undefeated Cary-Grove 33-6 Friday night in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game.

D-C (3-5, 0-4) again won't qualify for the playoffs. The Chargers last appeared in the postseason in 1994.

"The defense played really, really well," said Dundee-Crown coach Mike Davis.

The only score for the Chargers came on a kickoff return with 2:07 to go in the third period when Ian Salvatini handed off to Mike Monciviaz at their own 12-yard line.

Monciviaz looked to be stopped at the 25-yard line but broke out of the pack and tiptoed down the side line before picking up some blockers around the Trojan 25 and finally cruised into the end zone. Willie Larsen's point after try was blocked.

The two teams traded four-and-outs to open the game. On their second possession, Chargers quarterback Logan Kissack was hurried on a third-and-13 from his own 10-yard line.

Cary-Grove's Chad McCarron picked off the errant throw and blew into the end zone from 17 yards out to open the scoring for the Trojans (8-0, 4-0) with 7:54 left in the 1st quarter.

The Chargers put together an 11-play drive on their next possession that stalled on the Trojans' 19-yard line where Larsen attempted a 36-yard field goal that went wide left with 3:38 to go in the first period.

The second half opened with D-C forcing the Trojans to punt on a fourth-and-16 at their own 30-yard line. The Chargers were driving but were stopped when Cary-Grove picked off another hurried Kissack toss to stop D-C at the Trojans 22-yard line.

The Trojans' Eric Chandler ran for 162 yards on 24 carries, crossing the goal line twice. Tyler Krebs closed out the night's scoring, running the ball in from 13 yards out with 10:38 to go in the game. Krebs also went over the century mark, gaining 112 yards on 14 carries.

For D-C, the game plan was pass, pass and more pass, with an occasional run thrown in to try to keep Cary-Grove's defense honest.

Kissack was 13-for-31 for 106 yards and two interceptions. The rushing game was limited to 29 yards on 15 carries

"We wanted to throw the ball because we figured that was the only way we could hurt them," said Davis.

The Trojans gained 391 yards on the ground and only completed 1 pass for 6 yards in 9 attempts.

Next up is the last game of the season for D-C against District 300 rival Jacobs in Algonquin.

"That's one nice thing about having your rivalry game at the end of the season, a win can salvage your season," said Davis.

Crystal Lake Central 28, Jacobs 0 -- The Golden Eagles could muster only 57 yards of total offense and only 16 in the first half.

Jay Garfield led the Golden Eagles (1-7, 0-4 FVC Valley) with just 16 yards on four rushes.
