CARPENTERSVILLE -- Dundee Crown came into Friday night's game with high expectation of ending an 18-year drought against McHenry.
The Warriors had other ideas and a different defense. And higher intensity propelled McHenry to a 32-10 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory.
"I told them before the game that McHenry was going to come out and play hard, physical football. They did and we didn't match up with them," said Dundee-Crown coach Mike Davis.
The Chargers (3-4, 0-3) got the first break of the game when David Hopkins pounced on a loose ball in their own end zone to stop the Warriors (3-4, 2-1) after Dana Kohn's 60-yard scamper up the middle set up a first-and-goal at the Dundee-Crown 10-yard line.
The Chargers drove down to the 24-yard line and on fourth-and-6, Willie Larsen converted a 41-yard field goal to give his team a 3-0 lead with 2:48 to go in the first quarter.
That was the last high moment for Dundee Crown. On the first play after the kickoff return, Kohn again blew up the middle and rumbled 69 yards and the Warriors had a lead they would never relinquish, 7-3, with 2:30 to go in the first period.
Dundee-Crown had no answer in the first half for Kohn as he piled up 211 yards on 10 carries in the first half and 224 on 16 for the night.
The Warriors scored on their next three possessions, the final one of the first half coming with 10 seconds left on a 14-yard reception by Mike Canevello from Ryan Michel. The point after was wide and McHenry took a 26-3 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Chargers were able to adjust and move the ball a little better during the second half, but Logan Kissack was picked off twice to stop promising drives. Kissack was forced to scramble all night and throw on the run on nearly every passing play.
The only touchdown of the night for the Chargers came in the fourth quarter with 8:09 left in the game when Brendan Schumacher snagged a 8-yard Kissack pass in the end zone to close out the evening's scoring.
"They did something on defense by spreading out their corners that we had a hard time adjusting to," said Davis.
Kissack completed 9 of 28 pass attempts for 133 yards and the one touchdown. Ian Salvatini added 72 yards on 16 rushes.
The Chargers face a big hurdle next week when the undefeated Cary-Grove Trojans invade the D-C Bowl on senior night.
