On a night when Hubbard honored its 1998 Prep Bowl championship team, the current edition of the Greyhounds had plenty of reasons to rejoice.
Hubbard took advantage of early scoring chances and held off a late Dunbar rally in its 20-14 win at Gately Stadium on Saturday night.
Hubbard, Morgan Park and Simeon each finished with one loss in Illini Prairie State conferenceplay. The Greyhounds (6-1, 4-1) won the tiebreaker on the basis of defensive points allowed.
Diante Rounsaville intercepted a pass on Dunbar's opening possession to set up a 32-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Quincy Skanes to Brandon Noland.
"I started backpedaling on the play," Rounsaville said. "When I saw the quarterback going over the top, I just had to make a play on the ball"
The Greyhounds (7-1, 4-1 Illini Prairie State) took a 13-0 lead on Jerome Laseter's one-yard run with 8:14 left in the first half. Rounsaville's one-yard plunge extended the lead to 20-0. Despite playing without star linebacker Darius Moffett, out with a foot injury, the Greyhounds mounted two goal line stands in the first half. On two occasions, Dunbard (3-5, 1-4) had first-and-goal inside the Greyhounds' 5. The Hubbard defense stiffened both times, forcing the Mightymen to turn the ball over on downs.
Cortez Grant rushed for a touchdown and Darvell Harris threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Mojeed Lawal for Dunbar (3-5, 1-4).
