Downers South, Williams run over Willowbrook

Updated: October 1, 2011 12:13AM

Four consecutive first-half touchdown runs from Josh Williams were more than enough to propel the visiting Mustangs over the host Warriors 49-13.

Williams was simply unstoppable. He used a combination of speed and vision to amass 173 yards on just 13 carries, including scoring runs of 8, 23, 47, and 4 yards respectively.

In the final 25 seconds of the first half, Downers Grove South added two more scores, both through the air.

First, Quarterback A. J. Simonncelli found Wide Receiver Kaylon Miller for a 10 yard strike. Then, after a Willowbrook fumble on the ensuing kick-off, Simoncelli connected with Wide Receiver Marco Scalzetti from 24 yards out to give the Mustangs a 42-0 lead at the half. Simoncelli was 5/11 for 71 yards and 2 TDs before he was relieved by back up Paul Howatt in the second half.

Making the most of his opportunity, Howatt found Wide Receiver DeMaine Bailey for a 42 yard touchdown midway through the third quarter, the only Mustang score of the 2nd half.

Willowbrook (0-6, 0-3) scored twice through the air in the second half. A 6 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Dom Battaglia to Wide Receiver Jeremy Kucik gave the Warriors their first score of the night. To round out the scoring, Battaglia found Wide Receiver Zach Heur on a hitch and go route for a 41 yard score.

Battaglia ended the game with 51 yards rushing in a losing effort.

Mustang Tight End Scott Daly caught 3 passes for 37 yards.
