Downers North senior Mike Reed set two West Suburban Silver records and a pool record at the conference meet Saturday at York.

Reed and Hinsdale Central junior Danny Thomson, the defending state champion in the 500-yard freestyle, were the only individuals to win more than one event at the conference meet.

Reed won the 50-yard free (21.21) and 100 free (46.77) for the Trojans, which finished fourth (170). Reed broke his own pool record of 21.25 in the 50 free. The conference's former record holders were Lyons' Joe Hladik (21.66) in the 50 free from 2009 and Hinsdale Central's Dave Kormushoff (47.29) in the 100 free from 2004.

Hinsdale Central (309) beat Lyons (285) for the team title behind Thomson and a pair of surprise champions, Bryan Bu and Eddie Mapel, who were shaved and tapered in their events. Bu won the 100 butterfly in 54.09 and Mapel won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.95.

"It was hard to believe," said Bu, a sophomore in his first varsity season. "I thought I looked at the wrong line (on the scoreboard). I had to double check."

Thomson won the 200 IM (1:56.48) and the 500 free (4:40.65). He also competed in the winning 200 medley relay (1:39.74) with Ben Marsh, Bu and Max Morimoto. Morimoto won the 200 free (1:47.49).

"I felt great today," Thomson said. "Out of all of my times, I'm happy with all of them."
