Kritt leads Deerfield past Demons

Jeremy Kritt scored three first-half touchdowns Friday as Deerfield stayed undefeated in the CSL North with a 48-0 win over Maine East in Park Ridge.

The Warriors, who went into the game tied for first place in the league with Highland Park and Glenbrook North, led 35-0 at the half. They triggered the running clock after Marc Pagano scored on a 50-yard pass from Bradley Holway less than one minute into the third quarter.

Kritt, a first-year starting fullback, ran 13 times for 116 yards. The junior's night was done early in the third quarter when his team went up 41-0.

"I think I played well," said Kritt, who also scored three TDs in the season-opening win over Zion-Benton. "That we won is all that matters. I just do what they tell me."

Deerfield improved to 4-2 overall and now sits at 2-0 in conference play. The Warriors play Niles North next week before finishing out the schedule with Highland Park and Glenbrook North.

"We got a lot of momentum going now, but things only will get harder," Kritt said.

Pagano also had a big game for the Warriors, who switched to an option offense this season after running the spread a year ago. The junior caught four passes for 155 yards and ran three times for 43 yards and scored twice.

The Demons lost for the fifth time in a row, the last three with a running clock, and they've been shutout now for three consecutive games by a combined 133-0.

Desi Sloan ran for 30 yards on the second play of the game, but the Demons totaled only two first downs and 55 yards in the first half. Sloan finished with 20 carries for 96 yards.

Maine East looks to break its losing streak next week at home against Maine West.
