They really weren't sure what to do with Ryan Rehboch. Yes, the term "death warmed over" fits here. That strep throat had worn the junior down.

On Monday, the sun came out once again for the annual Lake County Boys Golf Tournament. And Rehboch put aside his illness and joined his Deerfield High School teammates

"He looked much better," said Deerfield coach Fred Dickman. "He played very well."

Dickman knows he has a young squad. And outside of star Bennett Lavin, the group is untested. So what's the best way to handle the situation?

Practice, practice, practice.

"We are very, very young," Dickman said. "We have great kids and great attitudes."

On Monday, all six Warriors shot in the 80s. Colin Zessis led the way with an even 80. Rehbock and Lavin added 81s.

"Bennett had a marvelous summer," he said. "He might have been pressing. Remember, he was the Lake County champion from last year. He's still 15-years-old. He doesn't even have his driver's license."

The Warriors also have the services of the Jaklin brothers. Ben is the junior and Danny is the sophomore.

Ryan Brown had an 84 on Monday.

"He really worked hard in the summer," Dickman said.

RECAP: On a day in which the wind played havoc with some of the shots, three players, including two from Barrington made the best of it at Bonnie Brook. Ross Frankenberg and teammate Travis Smyczynski led the winning Broncos with 71s. Frankenberg went three extra holes to pull out the victory over Smyczynski and Highland Park's Scott Mann.

Barrington edged Highland Park 298-301. Mundelein was a distant third (311). The Giants also got help from prized freshman Jonathan Gerrard, who took fourth place (75). Teammate Noah Kraff shot a 76.

"I'm really proud of the way we played," said HP coach Paul Harris. "We have the kind of team where it will be different guys on different days. And that's great if no one cares who gets the credit."

Mundelein's effort was paced by Pat McGrath, who shot a 76 to take 9th. The Mustangs also received solid medal-earning play from Andrew Adamsick (12th, 78), Eric Nelson (13th, 78), Ben Schroeder (14th, 79) and Sean Forsythe (15th, 79).

Lake Forest took 4th in the team standings (313). Deerfield (6th, 326), Lake Zurich (7th, 329), Grayslake Central (8th, 332), Libertyville (9th, 340), Warren (10th, 340), Zion-Benton (11th, 345), Waukegan (12th, 351), Lakes (13th, 352), Vernon Hills (14th, 356), Wauconda (15th, 358), Antioch (16th, 358), Grayslake North (17th, 362), Grant (18th, 379) and Round Lake (19th, 473) rounded out the field.

Deerfield Girls Golf

Even on an off day, she was still pretty good.

Deerfield High School's girls golf team took fourth place (382) at the annual Lake County Girls Golf Tournament held Monday at Sunset Valley.

And so did star Jamie Lavin, who finished with an 80.

Brittany Suzuki shot a 46 on the back nine and finished with a 97. Tracey Wool had a 45 on the front (102). Cassie Melick (104) and Kathleen Ready (105) also chipped in.

The Warriors opened the season with some strong scores in a win over Warren. Lavin was the medalist with a 38 at Deerfield. Ready had a 49. Wool, Melick and Suzuki added 50s.
