Curie too much for Vocational

Vocational may have stole the show with over 5,000 former players and coaches as well as fans showing up for alumni day at Gately Stadium. But never underestimate the heart of a champion, as Curie responded with a 34-14 victory Thursday night in a Redbird Conference showdown.
Kevonta McIntyre scored the Condors’ first two touchdowns on runs of five and two yards. Quarterback Jibreel Jackson, who has played brilliantly since the lost of quarterback/running back Reese Fleming, scored the next two touchdowns for Curie on a 28-yard run and through an 18-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Poindexter as the Condors built a commanding 27-0 lead by halftime.
The Cavaliers opened the third quarter with a four play 73-yard drive that was mainly capped off by a 63-yard run with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter by Christopher Brown.
Jackson tossed his second touchdown pass of the game with 9:02 remaining in the third quarter when he connected with wide receiver LaVonte Jones as the lead swelled to 34-6. The Cavaliers scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 57-yard run by Terrance Shelton Brown.
Curie coach Tyson LaBlanc said his team is really responding well and pulling together.
“You always expect the team to play hard on their homegoing,” said LaBlanc. “We have made some changes both offensively and defensively. We are getting better each day.” LaBlanc said. “Jackson is filling in admirably for Fleming. He is just a football player. When he came out of eighth grade he came to us as a quarterback but we moved him to wide receiver. He is hard worker and he is fearless.”
Jackson also said he understands the role he has assumed. “I know I have some big shoes to fill. Reese was our leader. I lot of people thought that we would fall after he went down, but we are a team and we are playing for each other,” said Jackson.
Vocational coach David Underwood said his team just made too many errors. “Mistakes will kill you every time. You don’t give a team that is good a short field and expect to win,” said Underwood.
