Panthers blow by Curie
Proviso West senior quarterback Malik Thurman ran for three touchdowns and
passed for another in a 58-16 win over Curie on Friday night.
Thurman finished the night with 115 yards rushing on 11 carries. He
completed seven passes for 64 yards.
Proviso West senior running back Julius Johnson also had a good night
rushing with 128 yards on 13 carries.
"All summer long we talked about running the football," Johnson said. "This
felt really good."
Proviso West kicker Germaine Dorsey set a school-record with eight extra
points.
Curie quarterback Reese Fleming had 81 yards rushing.
The Panthers scored three times in the first quarter en route to building a
23-13 lead at halftime.
Thurman scored on a 29-yard touchdown run and completed a two-yard pass to
Johnson for a touchdown.
The other two points in the first quarter came on a safety when the Curie
punter stepped over the back line in the end zone.
The Condors scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 4
and 1-yards by Kevonta McIntyre to pull within 16-13.
Thurman closed out the first half scoring with a five-yard run.
Proviso West scored three touchdowns on its first three plays of the second
half to build a 44-16 lead.
Thurman scored on a two-yard run and Johnson went into the end zone on a
4-yard run. Rasheen Lemon returned a kickoff 89 yards for the third score.
Johnson scored on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter and Michael Hodges went
in from six yards to complete the scoring.
Dominic Kozlowski had a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter for Curie.
