Simeon’s defensive line rushed Curie quarterback Andy Chmenia and forced an incompletion on the Condors’ two-point conversion in overtime to lead the Wolverines to a 29-28 win at Gately Stadium on Wednesday.
Simeon’s Horectio Banks provided the offensive heroics as he ran for a 10-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime to put the Wolverines (8-4) ahead.
“I wanted to step up as a sophomore,” Banks said. “It was for my team.”
It was one of three big runs for Banks. He also broke off a 61-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening play and later added a 77-yard score in the second quarter. It was his first three-touchdown game.
“I wanted to do whatever my team needed me to do,” Banks said.
Chmenia connected with Devante Miller for a 20-yard touchdown pass to set up the two-point conversion in overtime.
Simeon’s Lonnie Buggs gave the Wolverines a 22-15 lead with a 21-yard touchdown reception with 19 seconds left in the third quarter. Curie responded with 47 seconds left in the game with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Chmenia to Miller. The Condors’ extra-point sailed just over the ball to tie the game and eventually send it into overtime.
Quaashi Chandler and Rashad Faulk rushed for touchdowns in the first half for the Condors.
Two safeties, four touchdowns and two missed extra-points led to a 15-15 halftime tie.
