Prairie Ridge 'D' the difference in win

Collin Corcoran led the charge for Prairie Ridge’s defense as the Wolves forced five turnovers in their 41-16 victory over host Crystal Lake South Friday.

“Our defensive line did a great job of keeping their guys off of us,” said Corcoran, who plays linebacker and had three tackles in the backfield.”

Prairie Ridge (6-0, 3-0 Fox Valley Valley) took advantage of three first half turnovers to build a 20-0 lead.

Nick Nissen tossed a 39-yard touchdown pass to Sean Valentine. Jordan Getzelman then scored on a 33-yard punt return and a 45-yard run.

“Our athletes made lots of athletic plays,” said Prairie Ridge coach Chris Shremp.

Crystal Lake South (5-1, 3-1) closed to 20-10 on a one-yard run by Karl Mikulec and a 27-yard field goal by Brad Walovitch.

Prairie Ridge then opened a 34-10 lead, scoring twice within 21 seconds in the fourth quarter. The Wolves forced two turnovers and scored on the very next play after each.

Nissen tallied on a 19-yard run following a fumble recovery by Corcoran and Connor Greenwald scored on a one-yard run after a fumble recovery and return by Corey Patterson.

Austin Fowler pulled the Gators to 34-16 with 5:32 to playn a 23-yard touchdown pass to Walovitch But the Wolves’ Sean Follard shut the door when he returned the onside kick 48 yards for a youchdown.
