Crystal Lake South finished with its first undefeated season in school history with a 48-21 win over McHenry Friday night.
The No. 8 Gators (9-0, 5-0) squashed any ideas of an upset on the first play of the game when Drew Ormseth (6 of 11, 282 yards, two TDs, 153 rushing yards, two touchdowns) hit a wide open Kenny King (109 receiving yards, TD) down the middle of the field for an 83-yard touchdown pass.
On the next possession, the Gators only needed three plays to score. The 67-yard drive included an impressive 34-yard touchdown run by Kean Loupee, who broke a tackle in the backfield before finding daylight.
With under two minutes to go in the first half, Ormseth gave the home fans a lasting memory of the season with a spectacular 68-yard run in which he alluded three tacklers in the backfield before bursting down the sideline. A few plays later, Steve Forner ran the ball in from eight yards out to give the Gators a 34-0 halftime lead.
"Going 9-0 is amazing. We didn't think we would finish 9-0," said Ormseth. Trevor Jones finished with 81 receiving yards for McHenry (1-8, 1-4).
