Crystal Lake South picked up their second playoff win to remain unbeaten with 11 wins by defeating Lake Forest 28-17 at Crystal Lake South to advance to the IHSA Class 6A quarterfinals. Gators quarterback Drew Ormseth (111 yards on 16 carries) led the come-from-behind win with three touchdown runs in the second half.

"They showed us some different looks," Ormseth said. "We changed our blocking scheme a little bit and pulled out a victory."

The Scouts (7-4) took a 7-3 lead into halftime on a seven-yard pass from Jordan Beck to Jacob Hellinga.

Owen Williams (103 yards on 20 carries) opened the second half with a 35-yard run for a touchdown to give the Scouts a 14-3 lead and the inspired Scouts looked to have an upset in the making. However, Ormseth scored on a 15-yard run to cut the Scouts' lead to 14-9 with 13 seconds left in the third quarter.

A key turnover on an interception by Kean Loupee of Beck's desperation pass with five seconds left in the third quarter gave the Gators the ball on their own 34-yard line to start the fourth quarter. Bolek Mikulec (113 yards on 23 carries) ran for four yards on the first play of the fourth quarter followed by a 29-yard gain by Ormseth who ran the final one yard to put the Gators in the lead 15-14 with 11:16 left in the game.

The Scouts' rotating quarterbacks, Paul Carollo (9-for-18 and 103 yards) and Jordan Beck (8-for-14 and 84 yards) were intercepted five times by the Gators' defense. Ormseth also had two of the interceptions playing on defense.

Lake Forest came back with a 28-yard field goal by Samuel Moran to regain the lead 17-15 with 6:57 left in the game. The Gators came back with touchdowns from Mikulec and Ormseth in the final three minutes of the game to seal the victory.

The Gators (11-0) play the winner of Morgan Park at Prairie Ridge in the quarterfinals of the IHSA Class 6A playoffs.
