Crete-Monee’s Laquan Treadwell, Marcus Terrell and Kenneth Kidd helped the host Warriors drill Bloomington 63-14 Saturday in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.
Treadwell, a highly recruited junior who plays linebacker and receiver, thought he had Crete-Monee’s first score when he picked up a fumble and ran 25 yards into the end zone. The officials felt differently. They ruled the ball dead because of an incomplete pass.
It didn’t matter. On the next play, linebacker Tracy Whitehead recovered a Purple Raiders’ fumble and ran 25 yards to the end zone for a 7-0 lead with 10:25 left in the first quarter.
Treadwell scored on the Warriors’ next possession when he caught a 14-yard pass from Terrell to make it 13-0.
Bloomington cut the lead to 13-7 on a 2-yard run by Chance Mindiola, but No. 3 Crete-Monee (10-0) came right back and scored when Treadwell caught a 53-yard pass over the middle from Terrell. The two-point conversion made it 21-7.
Kidd, a running back, scored on a two-yard run at the 8:31 mark of the second quarter, and the two-point conversion made it 29-7.
Treadwell capped the scoring in the first half by taking a screen pass from Terrell for 28 yards to make it 36-7 at halftime.
Crete-Monee added second-half touchdowns on a Terrell to Breon Bailey 8-yard pass, a 25-yard run by Kidd, a 4-yard-run by Rykki Tate and a 58-yard run by Jansen Wylie.
Terrell finished 16-of-18 for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Treadwell caught six passes for 119 yards. He also recorded two sacks. Kidd finished with 154 yards rushing on 21 carries.
“I thought we executed well. We came out and we played hard on both sides of the ball,” Treadwell said. “I just played hard. I did what I was supposed to do in executing my routes.”
