MID-SUBURBAN WEST

Outlook: Barrington returns 10 starters from last year’s 7-3 playoff qualifier including QB Mark Bennett, RB/LB Chase Murdock, Wisconsin recruit Dan Voltz and Mason Darrow. But the Broncos must shore up a porous defense that allowed more than 20 points seven times in 2010.

Top five players Ht. Wt. Yr.

OT Nick Loden, Fremd 6-1 265 Sr.

LB John Maevski, Conant 6-0 175 Sr.

LB Chase Murdock, Barrington 6-1 215 Sr.

TE Eric Saubert, Hoffman Estates 6-5 215 Sr.

OL Dan Voltz, Barrington 6-5 290 Sr.

Quote: “I think the question on everyone’s mind is how are we going to replace (Shepard) Little, (Mark) Ianotti, (Joe) Zolper and (Bob) Quilico?” — Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling.

Did you know? Fremd’s 5-9, 165-pound Sam Beutler took over at quarterback midway through the 2010 season and led the Vikings to the second round of the Class 8A playoffs – as a freshman.

Predicted finish: Barrington, Schaumburg, Fremd, Conant, Palatine, Hoffman Estates.
