Lake Park soccer player Pat Brambert wasn’t happy that the Lancers football team lost to Conant Friday night, so he made sure to exact a measure of revenge.

The senior midfielder scored off a pass from Edwin Castro with 15:21 left in the second half to lift host Lake Park to a 2-1 victory over Conant on Saturday at the 17th annual Lancer Classic in Roselle. The Lancers, trying to defend their tournament championship, are 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the tournament.

"One of our big goals at the beginning of the season is to always beat Conant because they are always a good team," Brambert said. "In the first half we seemed more timid. We got up and we kind of laid back a little bit, but we have to keep constant pressure."

Castro gave Lake Park a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 14th minute, but the Cougars (0-1-2) tied it a minute later on a 27-yard shot from Derek Wojick.

Goalies Colin Norman and Marty Lupou each made two saves for Lake Park, which lost two defenders to injury early on. Lupou preserved the win by tipping a header from Brent Hoffman over the crossbar with 20 seconds left.

In other action, Wheaton North (2-0-1) was dominant in a 3-0 victory over Buffalo Grove (1-2).

Rob Wertke scored in the second minute after stealing the ball from the Buffalo Grove keeper, and Mike Fernald and Trevor Bushhouse tallied second-half goals for the Falcons on assists from Mike Lenzi and Jason Lollar.
