Guerin edges out Chicago Christian

Guerin Prep's homecoming victory was snatched away after an on-sides kick recovery by Chicago Christian as the Knights escaped River Grove with a 24-20 win.

The Knights were offside on the original kickoff, and saw the second attempt go through some Gators' hands before the recovery with 3:19 left in the game. Chicago Christian senior quarterback Jason VanderLaan finished off the winning six-play drive with a 15-yard run.

The Gators seemed to have sealed the game when junior running back ripped a 65-yard touchdown run with 6:24 left to make the score 20-9 in favor of Guerin (2-5).

The Knights (2-5) kept the Gators' defense on the field for almost the next five minutes scoring twice for the victory.

Guerin junior quarterback Tommy Kelly threw for two touchdowns, one of 54 yards to John Dabe to put the Gators up 7-0 at the end of the opening drive and the other to Marc Strnad for 21 yards to regain the lead 13-9 with 9:13 remaining in the game.
