The Trojans scored early and hung on late against a tough division rival for the 1-0 win. This win moves the Trojans season record to 7-4 (2-1 in conference). Junior midfielder Ryan Hoff scored the game's lone goal off of a throw-in assist from Joel Sytsma- the head ball found the back of the net midway through the first half. Timothy dominated the possession in the first half, but could only find the net once.
The Knights of Chicago Christian proved to be a hard team to finish off, as a scoreless second half opened up several opportunities for Chicago Christian. A beautiful Knight shot bounced off of the post with 7 minutes remaining, and on a play where keeper Kris Liefeld (9 saves) came out of the goal to punch a ball away, the loose ball found a Knight player who shot the ball at the corner of the net, only to have the goal robbed away from him by an amazing dive from Junior defender Josh Hjelmgren. Given the timing (4 minutes left) of this save, and the magnitude of this PSL game, this play was easily the Trojans defensive play of the year thus far.
Timothy looks forward to practice tomorrow, as they look to host Wheaton St. Francis on Thursday at 6:00.
