Carmel’s prolific offense proved to be too much for the host Shamrocks. The No. 14 Corsairs scored on their first six possessions and cruised to a 49-15 victory Friday night at Hanson Stadium.
The Shamrocks (3-3, 2-3) closed to within 15-8 on a 35-yd touchdown strike by Ryan Tentler (23-for-43, 215, two touchdowns) to Anthony Ferralis early in the second quarter.
Carmel (4-2, 4-1 East Suburban Catholic) answered with 27 unanswered points and led 29-8 at the half.
Mike Panico returned an early second-half kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown as the rout was on.
“We knew they had a pretty good offense and they had the ability to come back,’’ said Panico, who scored the game’s first touchdown on a one-yard run. ‘‘My [kickoff return] touchdown kind of sealed the victory.”
Quarterback Brian Brennan (23-for-35, 215 yards, two touchdowns; 15 carries, 119 yards) scored on a 38-yard run with 35 seconds left in the first quarter for Carmel.
Brennan also hooked up with Alex Young for a 25-yard touchdown with 6:30 left in the second quarter.
Jordan Kos added 97 yards on 17 carries, including touchdown runs of 62 and two yards for Carmel.
