Zirngibl does it all for Bison

For Richie Zirngibl, losing was simply not an option.
The Buffalo Grove quarterback did a little bit of everything during Friday’s 31-24 victory over visiting Lake Forest. He rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns, completed 7-of-15 passes for 85 yards with one touchdown, intercepted two passes as a defensive back and he recovered an onside kick to preserve the win.
“I’ve played with these guys my whole life,” said Zirngibl of his teammates. “They’re like my best friends and family. I hate losing, and all the other 54 guys feel the same way.”
Buffalo Grove trailed 17-16 in the third quarter when Alex Fritz scored on a 1-yard run. Zirngibl then lofted a two-point conversion pass to Ryan Schumi for a 24-17 lead. The Bison stretched the lead to 31-17 in the fourth quarter when Zirngibl fired a 15-yard touchdown pass to Schumi.
“Richie delivered what he was billed as,” said Bison coach Jim Farrell. “He’s an absolute competitor 100 percent of the time.”
Buffalo Grove also benefited from the running of Brian Busch (17-117) and Fritz (12-73).
Lake Forest refused to quit, thanks largely to the work of quarterback Jordan Beck. The Scout senior had touchdown runs of 2 and 59 yards and also whipped a 6-yard TD pass to Bo Dever in the fourth quarter.
“Jordan played with all the heart and character we could ask for,” said Scouts coach Chuck Spagnoli.
