Andrew Walker is the kind of running back every coach dreams of having. He has the size and bulk to run on the interior and the speed to get to the perimeter.
The Brother Rice senior showcased his versatility by gashing Bishop McNamara for four touchdowns as the host No. 2 Crusaders bolted to a three-touchdown lead in rolling 35-14 Friday night in a Catholic League crossover.
Walker earned 155 yards on 17 carries. He scored on runs of 2, 9, 9 and 5 yards.
“I have to give a lot of credit to what I do to the offensive line,” he said. “I wouldn’t really be able to do anything without them. They definitely created a lot of lanes for me to run in tonight.”
The Crusaders (3-0) dominated the Fightin’ Irish (2-1) on the ground, amassing 336 yards. The early strike was a 68-yard wide receiver screen from quarterback Pat Parrilli to Ryan McGaha on the first possession. One play later, Martez Walker (15 carries, 87 yards) bolted 24 yards for a TD. On the ensuing play from scrimmage, Brother Rice defensive back Jason Flagg intercepted a tipped pass.
Andrew Walker keyed his first touchdown run, a 2-yard burst, with a 29-yard dash. Andrew Walker’s 27-yard run set up his second score, a 9-yard run up the middle for a 21-0 lead.
Andrew Walker rushed for 83 yards on seven carries in the first half.
