Lemont High School tuned up Bremen 34-3 Friday to finish the regular season 9-0 and to win the South Suburban Conference title.

"I don't know that the 9-0 part has sunk in," said Lemont coach Eric Michaelsen. "Our focus is to enjoy tonight, but then we're going to move on and find out Saturday night who we play. We're going to scout somebody Saturday afternoon and get ready for the playoffs."

The Indians and the Braves (3-6) finished the first quarter scoreless.

Lemont finally dented the scoreboard with 7:55 to play in the second quarter. Junior defensive lineman Pat Driscoll recovered a Bremen fumble at the Braves' 23. Four plays later, junior running back Danny Hayes scored on a 4-yard-run to make it 7-0.

Bremen kicked a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3 with 4:14 to play in the quarter, but Lemont answered with an 11-play, 67-yard scoring drive that was capped off by running back Andrew Tomala's 2-yard-run to make it 14-3 with :41 left in the first half.

The start of the second half was delayed by lightning, and there was talk among the various officials that the game might be stopped. However, the game did resume, much to the Braves' chagrin.

Hayes broke a 50-yard run on the first play of the third quarter to put Lemont up 21-3. After the Indians stopped the Braves, Lemont came back with a 69-yard scoring drive that Hayes finished with a 9-yard scoring run as the horn sounded to end the third quarter.

Tomala added a 9-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.

Lemont's defense was stellar as usual.

The Indians forced six Bremen turnovers, and linebacker Luke Anderson recorded four sacks.

"The conditions sort of dictated what we were going to have to do, and I thought Danny Hayes did a nice job of hitting the holes and running hard and most of all protecting the ball," Michaelsen said.

"Our defense has done a nice job all year. I thought our defensive line did a pretty good job under John Coneset, our defensive line coach, and Luke Anderson coming off the edge getting those sacks was a momentum changer for us."
