Boys Bowling: Plainfield Central earns title

Plainfield Central and Lockport were separated by just two points atop the leaderboard after three rounds at the eighth annual Bengal Bowling Invite.
Midway through the fourth game, just when it seemed as if the Porters were on the verge of seizing control, Plainfield Central made a push to stay on Lockport’s heels.
The hot streak began a surge that catapulted the Wildcats to their second consecutive title at the 16-team tournament Saturday at Oak Forest Bowl in Oak Forest.
Plainfield Central finished with a six-game score of 6,373 to beat out the Porters (6,289) and capture the team crown.
Romeoville (6,224), Bolingbrook (5,992), Sandburg (5,946), Lincoln-Way East (5,724), Plainfield North (5,653), Oak Lawn (5,582), Lincoln-Way West (5,545), Argo (5,471), Tinley Park (5,334), Oak Forest (5,275), T.F. North (5,241), Hillcrest (5,031), Bremen (5,024) and Eisenhower (4,906) rounded out the field.
The Wildcats used a strong showing in the fifth game to open up a 65-pin lead going into the final round.
Lockport’s Shane Matejcak’s double in the ninth frame cut the lead to 35.
Plainfield Central’s Colton Chapin answered with three strikes in the final frame to end the Porters’ rally.
“It’s huge. We got off to kind of a slow start this year,” said Plainfield Central senior Todd Reno, who rolled a 1,284 series. “It’s been a slow road to it, but this win is definitely worth it.”
Bryan Blair (1,344) led the Wildcats, finishing third behind individual champion Gerald Regep (1,373), of Argo, and Sandburg’s Joey Kopera (1,368).
Blair credited his team’s Game 4 rally to its rivalry with Lincoln-Way West, which was bowling in the lane next to the Wildcats.
“When we’re loud, we bowl better,” Blair said. “So when we were going at them, we kind of bowled better. And then we had Lockport next to us, so we knew we had to bowl better. And I think we just surged because there was everything in place and we just kind of clicked.”
John Isit shot a 1,318 and David Wysocki had a 1,308 to pace Lockport.
Will Thompson (1,287), who fell three pins short of a perfect game in the fourth round, led Romeoville.
