Girls Basketball: Bolingbrook’s quick start downs Lincoln-Way East

That old adage among coaches that teams play like they practice? Apparently, that’s not the case at Bolingbrook.

“I was a little worried because yesterday practice didn’t go as planned,” Bolingbrook coach Anthony Smith said. “I went over practice time and they kind of tapered down on me. I was a little upset with them.”

Smith need not have worried.

“They came out and played hard tonight,” he said. “That was great to see.”

DeLacy Anderson and Allie Hill both hit a pair of three-pointers in the first quarter as No. 2 Bolingbrook opened up a 28-3 lead on visiting Lincoln-Way East, and that was all the cushion the Raiders needed as they rolled to their 22nd win of the season, 79-35.

Morgan Tuck led the Raiders with 23 points and 10 rebounds, Nia Moore added 14 points and nine rebounds, Hill had 16 points and Anderson added 13 points.

With the win, the Raiders (22-1) completed a 14-0 run through the Southwest Suburban Blue Division. But the three-time defending state champions have their eyes on a bigger prize.

“I hope they can keep it up the next three weeks,” Smith said.

The Raiders extended their lead to 45-17 at halftime and 58-25 after three quarters, allowing Smith to liberally employ all eight of his seniors.

“It was a great way for them to go out,” he said.

Taylor Johnson scored 12 points for No. 11 Lincoln-Way East (23-4, 11-3) and Caitlin McMahon added nine points and eight rebounds.

“(Bolingbrook) shot the ball real well,” Lincoln-Way East coach Jim Taylor said. “We were worried about Tuck inside so we tried to play behind their posts and front them on each side and our guards just weren’t able to cover the outside shot.

“If they shoot like that, they’re going to be tough to beat,” he added. “They’re tough to beat anyway. They just come at you. I pulled my girls off the free-throw line just so we wouldn’t get beat downcourt. They’re good. They’re good.”
