It may only be one game but Bolingbrook served notice to area teams that it has rebounded and is ready for a strong season.

The Raiders invaded Plainfield South and came away with a 40-16 romp past the Cougars on Friday night.

“It was only one game but it was very encouraging,” Bolingbrook coach John Ivlow said. “This is the best that myself and the other coaches have felt in Week 1 about a team in a long time.”

The Raiders (1-0) seized control of the game from the outset and displayed an offense that featured multiple threats. Even with all those threats, the offense still revolves around quarterback Aaron Bailey.

The junior signal-caller attempted just 10 passes, completing four, but three of those were for touchdowns. He also had a 5-yard TD run.

“I like the way our team is this year. I feel like we’re stacked,” Bailey said. “People said the team was only one person, but we have so many weapons on offense.’’

“Aaron is doing this for the third year now and he gets better all the time,” Ivlow said. “He’s still a little shaky on some of his option reads but he’s improving.”

South opened the scoring when Matthew Imburgia converted a 24-yard field goal with nine minutes remaining in the first quarter. The score came after a 51-yard completion from quarterback Austin Howarth to Edvinas Presniakovas. It would be the only score the Raiders first-team defense would allow in the game.

The Raiders responded on the very next drive, marching the ball 65 yards in 10 plays. Fullback Jaden Huff broke through the middle for a 24-yard touchdown that as Bolingbrook went up 7-3 and was off to the races. Huff finished with 64 yards rushing.

The Raiders offense racked up 536 yards as Omar Stover rushed for 113 yards. Bailey for 92 yards and D.J. Pruitt for 73 yards. Xavier Perkins had 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Pruitt had a 40-yard TD catch.

“We have good weapons and they’re good kids,” Ivlow said.

The Raiders were led on defense by Antonio Morrison, who was in on 11 tackles and recorded two sacks. Anthony Harris recorded six tackles and two sacks.
