Boys Basketball: Bolingbrook hands Glenbard West first loss

Updated: January 4, 2012 10:36PM

Bolingbrook junior Ben Moore isn’t just full of potential. The 6-7 forward is already one of the top shot blockers in the area.

His long arms and some pressure defense from his teammates helped the host Raiders beat previously undefeated Glenbard West 67-61 in overtime Wednesday.

Moore is still flying under the radar in the state, despite putting up a triple-double last month against Lanphier.

“I know people will start noticing eventually,” said Moore, who had two key blocks in the fourth quarter. “Especially if we get more wins like this. I know we are capable of it.”

Moore finished with 19 points, six rebounds and six blocks against the Hilltoppers.

“That’s what one of the best players in the state looks like,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said. “Everyone will know about him very soon. He’s been playing like that all season.”

Glenbard West led 46-35 with 6:42 to play. Everything unraveled from there. The Hilltoppers committed eight turnovers and received a technical foul, leading to a 16-2 Bolingbrook run. Moore missed a free throw that would have won the game for Bolingbrook in regulation.

The Raiders dominated the overtime, icing the win by shooting 13-for-16 from the line.

“That was the difference in the game for us,” Brost said. “We didn’t shoot well from the line in our losses this year. That’s a credit to the guys. They stepped up today and got the win against a very good team.”

Alec Boyd scored 13 points for Bolingbrook (8-5) and Josh Little added nine points and eight rebounds. The Raiders bench scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the game.

Michael Mache scored a game-high 28 and had six rebounds for Glenbard West

(10-1). Pat Mazza, a 6-8 senior, added eight points, 12 rebounds and five

blocks.
