Another victory for No. 6 Bogan after dealing with height problems from Kenosha Bradford on Saturday night.
Bogan got its act together by the second half and bounced past Bradford 69-33 in the Lake County Battle of the Borders Showcase at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.
Juwan Henry led the Bengals with a game-high 12 points and four steals, Devonte Smith chipped in 11, Kendall Wesley and Luwane Pipkins each added 10 a piece.
“With all the height they had, I was concerned,” Bogan coach Arthur Goodwin said. “I knew we would come out and play hard. We applied a lot of pressure like we usually do. We just had to offset their height.”
Once, Bogan (19-1) got on track, they took a 23-18 advantage and went on a 7-1 run into halftime for a 30-19 lead at the break.
“We had to get the feel of the court and we did sit around for two hours before the game waiting to play the team from Wisconsin,” Goodwin said. “We wanted to spread them out to play our game.”
Second half, it went in favor of the Bengals (19-1). Wesley and Henry combined for 15 points and Bogan outscored Bradford (2-12) 19-5 and led 49-24 by the end of the third quarter.
“Our outside shots got open and we started to play better defense,” Henry said. “Our defense got better and we picked up better space.”
Bogan has a make-up game with Harlan on Tuesday and will meet up with No. 1 Simeon on Wednesday.
