Record-setting Naperville North shines at own meet

Whoever coined the phrase “records are meant to be broken” must have had Saturday’s Huskie Invite swim meet in mind.
Naperville North, Benet and Naperville Central combined to break 13 of the 15 records — across three divisions — that fell in the Huskies’ home pool. They also finished in the top three in all three divisions of competition: blue, orange and white.
In the ultra-competitive blue division, the Huskies were first with 108 points, followed by Benet (99) and Naperville Central (84). Overall, the Redhawks broke six records, the Huskies shattered five and the Redwings set two meet marks.
Naperville North swimmers — and sisters — Michelle and Jen Law helped set the pace for the Huskies. They combined with Rachel Prorok and Becca Bogle on Naperville North’s record-setting 200-yard medley time of 1:50.54 in the blue division.
Michelle Law also set the 200-yard individual medley record with a 2:12.02 performance in the orange division, while sister Jen won the 200-yard blue title in 2:09.59. Jen Law also took first in the 100 butterfly blue, finishing in 57.85 seconds, but she was even more excited about her sister’s day.
“Michelle has had so much improvement in the past season and over the summer, so I’m really happy for her,” Jen Law said. “The best type of competition is close competition with your friends and in this case, my sister. I guess we push each other in the best ways.”
Benet’s Kathleen Vogel set a record in the 100 freestyle white race by swimming it in 55.27 seconds. Allison Pavlik (54.99 seconds) captured the 100 freestyle title in the orange race.
“I think they did great,” Benet coach Sarah Maggio said of her team. “They swam really well, they came ready to race, and they did. We had some lifetime best times.”
Naperville Central began the day with a record-breaking performance by diver Sophia Heiser in the morning portion of competition. She earned 310.4 points.
Then, the Redhawks’ 200-yard medley relay white team swam a meet-best 1:56.77 in the day’s first race.
“I think we all just had a positive attitude and we all look at this meet as a very high, competitive meet,” Redhawks junior Julia Roller said.
Roller was second in the 100-yard breaststroke blue race, swimming it in 1:08.58.
Huskie Rachel Prorok won the race in 1:07:21.
