PAIRINGS SHOW
The IHSA will unveil its football playoff brackets on its annual pairings release show, which airs from 8-10 p.m. Saturday night on Comcast SportsNet Plus. For Comcast Cable and RCN subscribers in the Chicago area, the show will air on CLTV. Satellite subscribers can see the show on DirecTV channel 666 or Dish Network channel 449. The broadcast will also be available on a live stream at www.IHSA.tv and www.CSNChicago.com. Among the show’s highlights in addition to the releasing of the brackets will be highlights from numerous playoff clubs, live look-ins from schools hosting playoff parties, coaches interviews and analysis from sports writers including Sun-Times football writer Mike Clark. Among the coaches scheduled to participate are Montini’s Chris Andriano, Aurora Christian’s Don Beebe, Mount Carmel’s Frank Lenti, Batavia’s Dennis Piron and Lincoln-Way East’s Rob Zvonar.
YOUNG CHAMPS
Young’s cross country program has turned some heads in recent years, highlighted by Lavinia Jurkiewicz’s Class 3A girls individual title in 2009. It looks like the Dolphins could be good for the long run, too. The Young Academic Center, a junior high school in the Young High School building that serves academically gifted students, won the Illinois Elementary School Association Class A boys cross country title last weekend in just the third year of the program’s existence. Coached by Dolphins assistant coach Al Edwards, Young Academic Center beat Paxton-Buckley-Loda 146-162 with seventh-grader Keduse Worku leading the way with a fourth-pace finish.
NEW SHOOUTOUT
The first annual Chicago Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic League Shootout will be held Dec. 3 at Benet, featuring Mount Carmel vs. Notre Dame at 5 p.m. and Loyola vs. Benet at 7 p.m.
