Barrington snapped a five-game losing streak by beating St. Francis 43-23 on Wednesday on the final day of the Suburban Holiday Showcase Girls Basketball Tournament at Loyola.
The Fillies (6-10) had dropped all four games at the invite, but finished on a high note.
“We had lost the last five games and we really wanted to get this win. We played four quarters and we all played together,” Barrington senior point guard Nicole Collins said.
Collins led all scorers with 15 points. Fillies senior Abby Tablett had five points and junior forward Alexa Resch had six points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Barrington held St. Francis (1-10) to just three first-half field goals and led 24-11 at the break.
The Fillies led by 16 points in the third quarter before St. Francis made one small run. Barrington quickly regained control of the game, pushing the lead to as many as 23 in the second half.
“Throughout the whole tournament we gave a lot of effort. We were a little out of our league with the teams we were playing and with where we’re at. We’re a young team and we’re still finding our way,” said St. Francis head coach Mike Phillips, whose team went winless in the tournament. “We competed as hard as we could against five quality teams. (Against Barrington), we kept it close for a while, but we were short on players and we ran out of energy”
Junior Aly Germanos led St. Francis with seven points.
Germanos and Barrington’s Collins were both named to the all-tournament team.
