The Broncos are truly enjoying every inch of the ride.
Barrington is off to its best start in football since 2003, when the Broncos began the season 8-0 under coach Joe Sanchez before losing to Fremd 7-3 in the regular-season finale.
BHS improved to 5-0, 1-0 after defeating host Hoffman Estates 41-27 Friday night in its MSL West opener.
Now that conference play is under way, one thing is certain for Barrington's undefeated football team -- it will be taking everything one step at a time.
Senior running back Sam Ojuri rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns after sustaining an injury the previous week. But he refused to take all the credit.
"This team has lots of different weapons," he said. "Guys like (receivers) Terrance Terry and Kevin Crowley are coming up big. And the offensive line helped me out a lot (Friday)."
Ojuri added, "We can't get complacent. We have a different challenge each week."
Sanchez has set up a blueprint for his team to help guide them to the playoffs this year.
"We like to break the season into thirds," he noted. "The first third of the season is non-conference play followed by the middle portion, conference play."
The team has yet to set their sights on the third and final piece of the puzzle: the playoffs.
"I just think we are on a roll right now and we still have room to improve," Ojuri said.
That is scary news for the rest of the MSL West as the Broncos have only just begun phase two of Sanchez's plan.
The next stop during the Broncos' journey is attempting to avenge a 35-7 loss to Palatine on Saturday. The team should get plenty of help from the homecoming crowd, making the ride that much more exciting.
