Fullback Danny Arden rushed for 248 yards and scored three touchdowns, leading visiting Antioch to a dominating 30-14 victory over Lakes on Friday that ruined the Eagles’ Homecoming.
Arden has now rushed 168 times for 1,048 yards and eight touchdowns in six games — all Sequoit victories.
Against Lakes, he scored on runs of seven and 53 yards to give his team a 14-0 halftime lead. He then added an 11-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter that made it 30-0.
Antioch also scored on a 25-yard run by quarterback Josh Anttila and on a safety when Zach Freundt tackled Lakes’ quarterback in the end zone on a play that began with a bad snap.
Lakes finally got on the board twice in the final quarter.
The first touchdown came on a one-yard run by halfback Direll Clark. It was the Eagles’ first touchdown on offense in three games.
The last score came on the last play of the game as Justin Bergeron caught a nine-yard scoring pass from Chris Hoffman.
“If you’ve got a horse, ride it!,” said Antioch coach Brian Glashagel of Arden, arguably the top running back in the area.
Amazingly, Antioch ran the same play 28 times in the game. The play was an Outside Veer, with Arden carrying the mail.
“That was an outstanding effort by our team,” the coach said. “We won this game in June and July with all the conditioning and weight-lifting.
“The kids were on a mission to win this game since last season ended.”
