Danny Arden rushed 38 times for 183 yards and scored on runs of 28, 5 and 4 yards to lead unbeaten Antioch past host Libertyville 21-0 on Friday in a non-conference prep football game.

The Wildcats (2-1) did little against the Sequoits’ defense, gaining 158 total yards.

Libertyville got to the Antioch 10 in the third quarter while down 14-0, but was stopped on downs.

Antioch then drove 90 yards in 18 plays that chewed up 9:47 of the clock and was capped by Arden’s third score.

That basically was it for the competitive phase of the game.

Arden, who does for antioch exactly what fullback Jordan Kos does for Carmel High School, pounded for yardage behind an offensive line that was dominant.

Besides the three touchdowns, Antioch also had a pair of red-zone turnovers, as Josh Anttila threw an end-zone pick and also fumbled the ball away at the goal line for a touchback after a 17-yard run.

“We said it was going to be a playoff atmosphere, and that we’re going to have to win big games on the road, and we did that tonight,” said Antioch coach Brian Glashagel. “I knew we were going to play physical on the line, but up front, it looked like we pushed the around.

“Our offensive and defensive lines did a heckuva job.”

Antioch will host Vernon Hills next week, trying to end the Cougars’ two-year hold on the NSC Prairie title.

The Cougars haven’t lost a league game since the 2008 season.

Libertyville quarterback Hutch Herchenbach was 13-of-20 for 125 yards and 1 pick.

Libertyville plays Mundelein next week.
