After losing its playoff opener each of the past two years, No. 6 Batavia started the postseason in better fashion by knocking off West Aurora 9-3 Wednesday in a Class 4A regional semifinal.

Going to school on the crafty left-hander paid dividends in the fourth inning, when the Blackhawks scored six times on their way to a 7-3 victory over the Panthers in an opening-round game in the Class 4A St. Charles North Sectional.

Prep baseball: Naperville North brought its heavy lumber to West Aurora on Friday, looking to sweep the three-game series with the Blackhawks. West was able to hang close in the early going, but the Huskies displayed a lot of fire power in the middle innings to win going away, 13-5.
