When LaChapelle Bradley moved up to the varsity and into a starting spot on Merrillville's defensive line this season, he had some help with the transition. The junior defensive end got some pointers from an expert on the subject: fourth-year starter James Travis. Besides giving Bradley some tips on his technique, Travis also tutored him on the mental side of the game.

Merrillville's Jake Raspopovich showed up at his first seventh-grade practice two years ago and assumed he'd be playing wide receiver. After all, he was always a receiver in the back yard. He was always a receiver in Pop Warner. So naturally, he'd be a receiver in seventh-grade ball, right? Nope. Not with that last name. "On the first day of practice, they saw my name and put me at quarterback," Raspopovich says. "They knew my brothers played quarterback, so they just assumed I could, too." Turns out they were right.
