Leyden coach Gary Wolf decided that senior ace hurler Ricky Zapata wouldn't pitch Saturday. Nevertheless, Wolf didn't expect his team to get outslugged 17-8 by Taft in the Class 4A regional finale at Maine South.

Otte plays through pain to help Eagles soar

This has been a painful season for Leyden's Mike Otte. Not painful in the sense of a difficult season at the plate or in the field. Quite to the contrary, the center fielder is the top hitter for the Eagles with a .402 batting average.
