Boys soccer postseason: For a young team that was an afterthought not only in the Big Northern Conference but also in Class 2A in general, a 7-0 loss to Lakes in the semifinal of the Grayslake Central Class 2A sectional isn't so bad for Hampshire's boys soccer team.

Only three games into the season, Burlington Central's soccer team and its high-scoring offense is already starting to turn heads. After routing Hampshire on Thursday, the Rockets kicked off their 10th annual Rocket Invitational by beating Yorkville 6-2 on Saturday thanks to a more-than-efficient offensive attack. Central (2-1) scored three goals in each half to earn the win and will play South Elgin on Tuesday for the right to advance to Saturday's championship game.

Burlington Central soccer coach Michael Gecan challenged his players to play better defense and score early on Thursday night against Big Northern Conference East Division rival Hampshire. The message was heard loud and clear as the Rockets cruised to a 4-0 win in an early season showdown.
